How Garage Door Motor Works
The garage door opener (motor) does not do much work. As the door is lifted, stretched out springs pull it up, doing 95% of the work. As the door closes, the motor pushes it down, stretching the springs for the next lift. This is why garage door openers need only 0.5 – 1 horse power – it doesn’t take much to lift up a door that is being pulled by stretched springs.
